Do Division I men’s volleyball scholarships cover full tuition?
Not usually. Men’s volleyball is an equivalency sport with an 18-player roster cap. Programs have scholarship funds equivalent to 4.5 full rides, which they divide among players. Some athletes may receive full tuition, but most receive partial awards.

How many men’s volleyball programs are there?
There are about 239 men’s volleyball programs across all levels:
- NCAA Division I: ~23 programs
- NCAA Division II: ~25 programs
- NCAA Division III: 100+ programs (no athletic aid)
- NAIA: ~43 programs
- JUCO: ~41 programs
Can I combine athletic and academic aid?
Yes — in fact, most athletes do. Academic merit scholarships often cover a large portion of tuition, while athletic aid fills the gap. Coaches prefer strong students because it stretches their limited budget.
What if I’m late to the recruiting process?
You still have options. NAIA and JUCO programs recruit later than NCAA D1/D2, and some D2 programs leave roster spots open into senior year. If you’re late:

Does club volleyball matter more than high school?
Yes. College coaches rely heavily on club tournaments and national qualifiers for evaluations, because competition levels are higher and all the top athletes gather in one place. High school play is still valuable, but club film usually carries more weight.

Absolutely. Many NCAA rosters feature multiple international players. If you’re abroad, make sure you:
- Provide English transcripts and test scores
