I chose swimming as my life’s path when I was 6 years old — a year before most of my teammates. Between the ages of 9 and 11, I was already one of the top swimmers in my group. At 12, I became a champion in the girls’ 4x50m freestyle relay at Russia’s Youth International Competition, setting a new competition record. We also won the 4x50m butterfly relay at the same event.
After that, I suffered a shoulder injury, but I returned to the sport soon after. For almost three years, I didn’t show progressing results. Now, however, I’m back to posting my personal best times, and with my new coach, I’m working on rebuilding my strength, technique, and speed. Since this past May, I’ve been training at Olympic Reserve Academy No. 1, and since then (in June) I’ve already improved my 100m IM time from 1:06.43 (SCM) / 1:00.02 (SCY) to 1:05.70 / 59.36. The IM is my main event, but I also compete in the 100m in multiple strokes — right now I mostly race the 50m distances, though I’m about to start racing the 100s as well, since college coaches typically recruit based on 100 times.
Academically, I’m the top student in my class — I finished 8th, 9th, and 10th grade with straight A’s, and I’ll do my best to graduate with honors. I haven’t settled on a major yet, but my strengths point toward math, economics, and data-driven fields — I’m especially drawn to data science, business analytics, and information science, and I’m excited to explore these further in a US academic environment.
Being successful in life matters deeply to me, and I know reaching that goal takes hard work. I genuinely enjoy that kind of effort, because being a successful athlete opens up the world to me, and being an outstanding student opens doors and possibilities in life. Sometimes the workload gets overwhelming, but I picture my ultimate goal and find the motivation to keep going. My parents support me every step of the way and help me achieve my goals.
I dream of studying in the US, because I know for sure this is the place where my talents can be put to full use — where I can make the biggest impact, both as a strong swimmer and a skilled student.
