My name is Simona Radovic, and I’ve been playing volleyball for seven years as an outside hitter.
I used to try out different sports like soccer, tennis, and swimming, but none of them captured me the way volleyball did.
Four years ago, I started attending a sports-focused high school, the Ballsportgymnasium, where we are prepared from a young age for the life of an athlete.
My daily routine includes training in the morning, then school, and training again in the afternoon.
Of course, this can be tough – but I made the decision to attend this school the moment I realized how much I love volleyball and that I can’t live without it.
I am obsessed with the opportunity to give 100% every day and to improve.
But it’s not just that – playing with my team is an indescribable feeling. Fighting side by side with my teammates, knowing that in volleyball nothing can be achieved alone, makes the team spirit even more intense than in other sports.
That is why I love volleyball and why I want to come to the U.S.
This fight, these emotions, the discipline it takes to show up to every practice, to get good grades, and to take care of my body and nutrition – this is everything to me.
I don’t even know how to fully describe it, but there’s something in me that just loves to keep going — not only on the good days, but especially in the hardest moments.
No matter what, I never give up.
Because I know myself: I love pushing myself to be the best version of me, no matter what I’m doing.
And through my own experiences, I’ve learned that no matter what happens, I’ll never give up or stop fighting — especially not when it comes to volleyball.
Because of that, I also decided to do a year abroad in Serbia at the age of 16 in 2023, a country where the level of volleyball is very high. I was able to train for half a year with the first team of the club ŽOK Novi Sad and played in several tournaments with their youth players — even winning one of them as a starting player.
That’s why I truly hope to get the chance to prove myself at an American college through volleyball.
