My name is Leila Iafeta, I am a 20 year old polynesian athlete, I am a 5’10 versatility player from New Zealand and Australia that just finished my sophomore year as an international student. I finished the JUCO season ranked number 1 in region 20 for points and kills with 323 and have ended my JUCO career with 420 points and 470 kills. Since ending my JUCO career i’ve continued to rapidly improve in all areas of the court. Just this year I have received All region first team, All MD Juco First team, 2026 U’23 Queensland National team, 2026 Volley Ferns Squad, and 2026 Best serve receiver at the New Zealand Interprovincial Championship; I really focused and pushed more on my defence at this tournament so I could show my confidence and consistency in the back row and especially in serve receive.
I am really hungry and ready to make an immediate impact wherever the team needs me. I am extremely confident in the back row and especially in serve recieve. I am always ready to take big swings but I will also play smart and use my court IQ for aggressive and smart ball placements. This spring and summer I’ve really worked on my defence and serve receive but I have not shied away or neglected swinging and blocking, I’ve just aimed to improve my consistency and confidence more. I have an approach touch of 10′ and I’m constantly training to improve that.
I am majoring in Arts and Sciences and will graduate with my AA this summer. I had a semester GPA of 4.0 and made dean and honor roll for the spring semester bringing my overall GPA to 3.4 now. I take my studying very seriously, taking the initiative to spend at least 7 hours in a personal study hall a week since it wasn’t mandatory at my JUCO. I plan on attaining my Juris degree after achieving my bachelor’s to be able to practice law when I am finished as an undergrad.
