    About me

My name is Lana, and I am a 17-year-old setter from Maribor, Slovenia. Volleyball has been one of the biggest constants in my life, and for the last 10 years, I have played for the same club. I have been fortunate to try many other sports, which helped me develop a variety of athletic skills, but none of them stood out to me the way volleyball did. Different coaches, teammates, and levels of difficulty have taught me valuable skills that I use not only in volleyball but also in everyday life.
I am hardworking, dedicated, stubborn, and independent when I need to be, but most importantly, I am a team player. For three years of my career, I had the opportunity to be the captain of my team. During that time, I learned how to be a better leader—to bring out the best in my teammates, to know when to step up, be assertive or decisive, and, most importantly, when to help, comfort, and support those around me. As a setter, my job on the court is to organize the play. I always need to know the positions and locations of my teammates and try to plan the smartest plays. I strive to improve every day and take the best from every situation.
I study at II. Gymnasium Maribor, which is known to be one of the most challenging high schools in the country. I am a perfectionist and give 100 percent in everything I pursue. That’s why I try my best in school every day, even if it means staying up late or sometimes choosing to stay home to get the best grades possible, since volleyball takes up a lot of my free time. I am in a special sports class, which is a big advantage for me. There are only 20 students in the class, so we can work more closely with our professors, especially since we are absent more often than other students due to practices and games. We also have certain privileges when it comes to scheduling exams. Since all my classmates are the best athletes in their own sport, we share similar interests, which makes it easier to connect and get along.
In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends, and I try to use any spare time I have, to see them. I also enjoy reading, watching movies, and doing other sports. In the winter, I teach skiing to young children, and in the summer, my favourite water sport is wakeboarding. I also enjoy traveling with my family, and I am very thankful for every opportunity my parents have given me and for all the support I receive from them on a daily basis.
To play and study in the USA would be a great opportunity to see more of the world, improve my volleyball skills, become even more independent, and pursue the best education I can get.
