About me

Volleyball has always played a central role in my life. From an early age, I felt strongly attracted to the sport. This is partly because of my sporting background. Both my parents and my oldest brother play or played volleyball, so I grew up in an environment where passion for the sport was a given.

I started playing volleyball at a very young age in Opwijk. At a young age, I trained three times a week and played multiple matches every weekend. Around the age of 10, there were also provincial selections and tournaments. This led to me being selected for the Belgian volleyball school at the age of 13. There, I combined my school education in the morning with intensive volleyball training in the afternoon and evening. This training was particularly demanding and completely focused on topsport, with a focus on physical, technical, mental, and tactical development. We had ball training, physical training, and video analysis every day.

In my final year, I combined the top sports school with VC Oudegem. VC Oudegem plays in Belgium’s highest league. In Oudegeme, I was allowed to train three times a week in addition to the volleyball school. This allowed me to get some extra experience at a higher level.

At the age of eighteen (after the top sports school), I made the switch to Ghent, where I played for two seasons. With this team, we achieved a top 4 ranking in the league and played in the final of the Belgian Cup, which was an absolute highlight for me. During the same period, I also played for the U20 national youth team, with which we won bronze at the European Championships in Sofia. Last summer, I was also included as a setter in the wider squad of the national team, the Yellow Tigers.

This season, I made a conscious decision to move to Antwerp, a team that is currently in the top three in the league. I chose this club because of its more individual and developmental approach to training, which fits perfectly with my ambition to grow further as a setter.

As a young setter, I regularly experience competition and more experienced players are often chosen for the field. Although my playing time is currently limited, I remain highly motivated to develop myself further and earn my place as a setter at the highest level.
My coaches describe me as a player with strong physical qualities, including height and blocking ability, combined with a wide variety of setting skills. In addition, I am known as a calm and reliable person who brings stability to the team in stressful moments and exudes confidence to my teammates.

I am convinced that the professional and academic approach in the United States can help me further develop these qualities. With great motivation and passion, I look forward to starting this new chapter and developing myself both athletically and academically in the US.
